Otafest Group Information

For official and up-to-date information on the convention, please go to, where you will also find access to the forums.

This group is solely for Otafest related content, which includes:
-Photos from the convention
-Cosplay Progress
-Photos and art from vendors
-Artist Alley submissions
-Fan art
-Attendee artwork

Please help keep the group organised by selecting the correct folder for your submissions. :)

To become a member, select "Join This Group" at the top of the page. Only selecting "+deviantWATCH" does not grant the ability to submit content.

Art Submission:
1) Click the "Gallery" tab at the top of this page.
2) Select the appropriate folder for your submission.
3) On the top right, click the button saying "+ Submit to this Folder".
4) Select from "Submit a New Deviation" and "Contribute an Existing Deviation".
5) You should know what to do from here. :) If you have any issues, please message an admin or consult the deviantART Help & FAQ!

**Please note: Content in the "Featured" folder is now managed by admins. This is only to keep the front page from being overflown with too many similar photos and art pieces, often from the same contributors.**

Have fun sharing! ^^
SO, I see a lot of you are already uploading photos from the weekend, thanks for that! I'll be adding my own in the next couple of days (once I am more recovered from some intense bronchitis and suffer through work)!

This was such an awesome year, not just for costumes, but for everything overall. ICAN'TWAITFORNEXTYEAR! CONGRATS TO US ALL!
Hey everyone!

If you attended CCEE, feel free to add any of your cosplay photos from this past weekend on here, if you will be using the same costume(s) for Otafest!

SO! I'm glad that people have shown interest right away, but... now we need some content! The only photos of Otafest I have aren't very good quality, so I won't be putting those up quite yet. ;D Hopefully ya'll have some good stuff hiding in a forgotten folder on your computers, or maybe even already uploaded to your deviantART account!

Feel free to introduce yourself here, and tell us who you are on the Otafest forums if you want. :D

Let's get started! ^^

"What is Otafest?

In 1999, Otafest was born when the University of Calgary's Dedicated Otaku Anime Club decided to have a 1 day film festival showing Japanese Animation (anime) to the public.

Over the next decade, Otafest has grown to become its own non-profit organization (Otafest Film and Cultural Festival Planning Committee), and while we still showcase anime, that is only a part of the festival now.

Otafest is an annual conference for anime enthusiasts. We act as a creative outlet for fans, an occasion where they can show their passion and appreciation of the hobby. We are an event where fans can show off the costumes they have made, the music videos they have created, and the art they have painted and drawn. Otafest is a forum for discussion and education. We host educational panels introducing others to the basics of the Japanese language, and tips on how to use computer programs to enhance music videos and CG art. In the past, we have hosted guests who explained the process of donning a kimono, demonstrate the intricacies of tea ceremonies, and Iaido (the art of drawing a sword from a scabbard). We have invited individuals involved in the voice acting and animation industries to speak of their experiences. Otafest is a marketplace. We gather dozens of vendors together from all over Western Canada, to facilitate the best bargain hunting in town. And, of course, we haven't forgotten our roots: Otafest is an anime festival.

We bring the latest shows and videos, as well as the fondest classics, and provide an opportunity for fans to see anime on the big screen, as well as a chance for the curious to see what it’s all about. We are a chance for fans to get together and celebrate their hobby, and to share their passions with you.
We hope to see you this year!

Just asking, if somebody could approve/deny the pics I submitted from this year before they expire, that would be awesome. I know I shouldn't rush you guys but I'd like to know if they'll be submitted or denied since this group helps me locate cosplayers I took pictures of, haha.
